Cowgirls in the Sand / Carrie Anderson & Heidi Blackman

July 8-15, 2017

Do you dream about spending time with horses and/or getting into yoga? Maybe you have dabbled in one or the other but can't seem to find the time to fully immerse yourself? Do you find yourself stuck in your day-to-day life feeling the need to take a step back and reasses where your energy is going and how to realign your life?

If you said "yes!" to any of these questions, this retreat is a perfect opportunity for you. You will join a small group of like-minded women and Equisol's founders, Carrie and Heidi, in exploring the world of horses, yoga, mindfulness and mother nature. You will learn from and about horses: how they communicate energetically, mirror us and make us more self-aware and focused on the present moment. You will receive individualized riding instruction to correct your riding position and communicate effectively with your horse. You will also learn the basics of yoga philosophy and practice yoga asana (the phycial postures) and meditation. We will look at both the physical and philosophical connections between yoga and horses.

We begin the week by meeting the herd and learning about body language, energy and herd dynamics. We then move to working with the horses on foot (as opposed to in the saddle) in the round pen and/or arena and learning the basics of equine massage and stretches for the horse. We then have riding lessons where we work on riding position and cues and then we hit the trails the last few days culminating with riding on the beach!

All levels of horseback riding and yoga (including none) are welcome. We have a small enough group to tailor the retreat as needed. The only prerequisities are an open mind, an open heart and a sense of adventure!

About Carrie & Heidi

Carrie and Heidi founded Equisol Retreats in 2013 with the goal of offering their two favorite things in life - horses and yoga - in their favorite place in the world - Nosara, Costa Rica! Carrie and Heidi met in 2012 in Nosara. At that time, Heidi was teaching yoga and looking for a horse to buy and Carrie wandered into her yoga class. Carrie helped Heidi find her first horse (Carrie is an excellent match-maker!) and began to teach Heidi riding lessons. The two became fast friends and began to see the myriad of ways that yoga philosophy, breathwork and alignment principles overlap with natural horsemanship training, riding alignment and communication. They became more aware of the inherent personal growth component of the retreats as time went on and have embraced it wholehearedly. Now they encourage guests to use the retreats as an opportunity for self-reflection, expression and expansion.

Carrie has over 20 years of riding experience with a background in western, dressage and hunter/jumpers. She has been training horses and riders for over seven years. Her focus in training is integrating natural horsemanship techniques with classical dressage and hunter/jumper training and improving the connection and communication shared between horse and rider. Carrie and her husband, Neno, are also the owners of our sister company, Playa Ponies, which offers daily horseback riding tours in Nosara.

Heidi has been practicing yoga for over 13 years and is a 500-hr RYT (200 hours of training through YogaWorks with Kia Miller and 300 hours of SmartFlow training with Annie Carpenter). Heidi continues to study yoga and teaches alignment-based vinyasa and restorative yoga classes during Equisol's retreats. Heidi also continues to ride and learn about life through her two horse muses - Frisco and Lucas.
